God, I loved this. For one thing, it’s both hilarious and poignant. Your voice speaks consistently at a deep level of emotion, a sustained gut reaction but with astute onboard intellect and acute insights into what you encounter. And you let your heart and/or intensity engage with what and who you encounter. You really speak for a lot of people who don’t even know what they’re feeling and thinking. I could read this kind of in-touch travelogue every day. If you ever see your ‘quirky transit neighbor’ again, follow her around all day and write about it! I loved the cheese piece too, being similarly afflicted.

Well, that depends on how involved you want to become. You could write to stores that sell fur and designers that use it in their lines, but I think the most important thing is to refuse to wear any kind of fur, “origin assured” or not, and spread the word about the cruelty of fur clothing.

Larry, that means a lot to me, coming from you; I know you know what you’re talking about! I usually end up hating my poetry, often finding it trite or “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”. But this is one of my favorites. It happened so organically, despite the fact that I was staring at about 150 word magnets on my fridge. I’ll take your advice and keep – or start – writing poetry, but we’ll see if I decide to publish it. Thanks for your support and encouragement.

I go back and read this poem from time to time and am always impressed with its succinctness and range, imagery, and free cadence. Please keep writing, poetry or whatnot, even (especially) through the rigors of the day job. Just sayin’.
